Guide your clients through MTD
Keep your smallest business clients in the know about Making Tax Digital. Share this free handout that’s made just for them.
About the guide
Making Tax Digital (MTD) is a government initiative that sets out a bold vision for the UK to have “one of the most digitally advanced tax administrations in the world”. The first stage rolled out on 1st April 2019 and with more waves to follow, more and more of your clients will need to understand the initiative in the future.
To help you guide your clients through the next stage of the government's plans for Making Tax Digital, we’ve produced a concise guide for small business owners and freelancers. It explains what Making Tax Digital is, what its objectives are and how it will affect the way taxpayers report information to HMRC now and in the future.
The guide also includes specific information on Making Tax Digital for VAT, which now requires all VAT-registered businesses to use MTD-compatible software to store business records digitally and send VAT returns to HMRC.
Once you’ve downloaded the guide, you can email it to your clients or print it out and mail it to them after your next appointment.
The content in this guide is based on HMRC's guides and resources and was last updated by FreeAgent in October 2020.
